“Easy Jive,” much of which is a catchy one-chord groove, was inspired by the Herbie Hancock Sextet of the late 1960s. David Angel takes a particularly soulful solo to launch the piece and there are excellent spots for trumpeters Jack Coan (showing his expertise with the plunger mute) and Ron Gorow along with Jackie Kelso on tenor. The arrangement creates a great deal out of the groove and the results are driving and infectious.
